I read about this idea in a psychology book years ago, and again in the same book I wrote about the other day. It says: “how important is for you to feel good to attract more good in to your own life”. Or also: “when you feel bad you keep creating more reasons to feel bad about”.So what is a “mood shifter”?; as the phrase says it: something you can use to “shift gears”, to change your state of being, to modify your mood.Using mood shifters is something we do even without noticing: just think about the times you are feeling down-hearted. If you are still in your senses you will try anything to uplift your mood, like watching a comedy movie or reading a magazine of jokes. Or the times we are worried, we try to occupy our minds with something that keeps us away from it.I will start with a brief list of my own, and maybe whoever is reading this could try one of them:1. Singing in the shower.2. Lighting candles and taking a hot bath. 3. Cooking.4. Watching a comedy and laughing out loud.5. Dancing or listening to music.6. Memories: one of the best mood shifters are the memories of the most hilarious moments I can remember.7. The “ABCdary game”: a game that I made up. It’s simple: starting from A to Z, think any “positive” word. E.g.: A-dventure, B-elieve, C-reation, etc. I have tried it in English, Spanish and even Japanese! (of course I can’t go too far with the last one…)8. Carrying a picture of a landscape with me all times. I got this idea from a movie.9. Reading a book.10. Writing.11. Going for a walk.12. Painting. So I want to know what people do to “shift their moods”. It will be great to share some insights.
